Waar zijn de postfix log bestanden?

Ik weet dat dit al honderd keer gevraagd is. Maar ik'heb veel op Google gezocht zonder succes. Mijn vraag: Ik wil elke activiteit van mijn postfix server loggen. Noch het standaard bestand /var/log/mail noch een ander betreffende mail of postfix bestaat.

  1. Wat is de exacte string die ik in het configuratiebestand /etc/postfx/main.cf moet zetten om logging in te schakelen?
  2. Waar kan ik zien welk configuratiebestand postfix gebruikt? (volgens mijn hint hieronder)

Hint: Ik gebruik postfix samen met dovecot. Ik installeerde meta pakket enkele maanden geleden.

Oplossing

Ze zouden in /var/log/mail.log moeten staan. Het lijkt er echter op dat de configuratie van uw syslogvoorziening door u (of uw provider) is gewijzigd. Het gebruik van de gewone syslogd in plaats van rsyslogd is heel goed mogelijk, maar dan kun je verwachten dat dingen anders werken dan je verwacht.

Zoals reeds vermeld in de commentaren, door rsyslog te installeren, kwamen de bestanden weer tevoorschijn.

Op Ubuntu 16.04, vond ik postfix logs in /var/log/syslog:

grep postfix /var/log/syslog

Je kunt de stroom van postfix logs bekijken:

tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep postfix
